Does a disabled account require a CAL?

Hi there,
If I need to set up an account ( and mailbox) in SBS 2003, purely so that others can access that mailbox, I would normally disable the account. Does this still count towards a used CAL?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi budchawla,

Actually.... setting up accounts and mailboxes whether enabled or disabled does not take up a CAL.  Only a user or device which logs into the Network and accesses resources through Active Directory will use up the CALs and even then it's kinda fuzzy.

But, for sure, you can have just about as many mailboxes as you like (I think it's actually a limit of 1500).
