Multiple monitors listed

I occasionally run accross PC's that show more than one monitor when you go to display properties\settings\advanced\monitor.  It will list "Default Monitor" and "Plug and Play Monitor".  There is always only one monitor attached so why the two listings?

Thanks.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

you have more than one ports availiable on the VGA card. for example a laptop having an external port will also show 2 monitor options.
you can configure it to any settings when monitor is not connected .
Although when you connect and power up a proper monitor, only the supported modes for the second monitor can be used. A nice option is to extend your desktop to the second monitor which really doubles up your workspace.
