Reducing the Password Change countdown

Hi All,

How do I reduce the amount of days that users are warned they are going to need to change their passwords, at log on.

Now starts at 14days (which of course you know), want it down to 7.

TIA

Hi Gareth,

You need to edit the default domain policy.

Computer Configuration/Security Settings/Account Policys/Password Policy

14 days? sounds more like XP local policy than domain policy?

Start > Run > gpedit.msc {enter}
Then
Computer Configuration/Security Settings/Account Policys/Password Policy

if you CANT change it here then Chris is correct its being set at domain level

Thanks Guys,

both looking at the same thing from a different angle, however from what i have seen even if i set maximum age to 35 days and minimum to 30 days the countdown still starts at 14 days for the user. Thus for the first 9 days of the countdown the user can not actually change the password as it is not old enough.

Now I could just shorten the minimum password age to 21 and that would solve the issue of changing the password but this is not what i want to do.

Any further ideas?
Found it guys (i think)

computer configuration/windows settings/security settngs/local policies/security options

Interactive logon: Prompt user to change password befoe expiration

thanks for the help
