Problem when installing PCI card (TechniSat SkyStar 2 TV PCI) system lags,

The problem is like that,
Everythiung works fine , and in my box (Pentium 2.8 HT with 1GB or DDR ram) i allready have these pci cars : Pinnacle tv tuner and sound blaster live 5.1

A few days I bought the sattelite reciever: TechniSat SkyStar 2 TV PCI,
so I install the PCI card, I start windows, and they ask me to insert the drivers for the new found card,  I insert the card's drivers cd (original) and the installation goes smoothely without any errors. The problem is that in the excact time that the drivers (or the card) gets enabled by the system, my computer lags, the lag is obvious in games, while playing music or ever moving the mouse pointer arround (lag meaning that every 2 seconds every thing stands still for half a seconds..and then the same again after 2 seconds).

When I reboot the machine and windows starts, i can hear the "welcome" music that windows have by default just fine! and thats because the pci card is not loaded yet.
when every is loaded, the system lags.
I Tried these things:

1.uninstall drivers, re install it. No result
2.uninstall drivers, change the slot of the pci card in two different slots. No result
3.uninstall also the tv tuner card (pinnacle) and then install ONLY the SkyStar card. No result
4.Change the PCI latency from the bios from 64 (the default) to 32, No result
5. >>    >> to 128 and then to the maximum...still No result.

I dont know what else to do, now I have installed the Skystar card, and I have disable it from the Device Manager, and my pc works fine, as soon as I press the "Enable" button , in the Device manager over the Skystar card, the pc lags again...

I also check from the Device manager the Properties=>Resources=>And in the Conflict Device List it says : No Conflicts.

Any ideas?

P.S. I dont think that the pci card is broken or non-functioning cause when I enable it their programs show that work just ok with the card..i just hace this lag ...

I've just discovered from the Device Manager that the Pinnacle Tv Tuner and the Skystart card use the excact same IRQ (17)

is there any way to change it? bypass it?

hi there

as a matter of fact u can change the irq settings as there are only few irqs. by the why are u using two tv cards. i mean if its to watch tv try to take one card out. and see if the issue is because of the irq conflict or because of the new card. then u can work around to change the irqs. by default all devices in one catagory share a common irq. like irq 7, 11, & 12 are shared by different devices. so the issue might not be of the irqs.

The first is a TV tuner ( with simple antenna) and the second is satelite reciever (i will install a satelite dish), thats why I use both.

In the device manager neither of both devices say anything about conflict they seem to fit together just fine.
It's just that lag thing...
How can I change the irqs?

What else do you suggest ?

What OS are you useing?
In Windows xp and 2000 the os when booted will assign irq settings and they can be the same this is normal operation.
You can change irq settings from your BIOS. Though in some cases depending on what you are doing may and may not solve your problem.

When you open the device manager and click on your problem device the satalite pci card i know you say it says no conflicts. The question is what driver is it stateing that it is useing. Make sure that it is useing the driver that you installed not the one windows sets by default. Thats a age old common problem with Windows where windows will not allow you to change the drivers that windows is useing as they are not Windows certified. If this is the case you will have to disable the windows certification so you can use the driver that you have or find a certified windows driver.

Also have you setup the profile that the card will use. Takeing a brief look at the product on the mfg website you can set up profiles on how the card will operate this could be your problem.
What you are experiancing sounds more like a driver conflict then anything else.
There are a few things I can think of.. I would Try clearing the CMOS 1st. After that I'd try the latest software/drivers

http://www.technisat.com/?site=service/download.php&produktID=1281&reload
Software 4.3.2 with PVR & Timeshift
Updated 10/2005 for Win 2000 / Win XP / Win XP x64 / Win 2003 including manual, DVBViewer TechniSat Edition and preconfigured data settings for Sat@Once, aTHP, SatADSL, AliceSat and many others.

--Many devices share IRQ's, and windows will manage them. Check your BIOS setup to ensure Plug and Play OS is enabled.
--Try updating your mainboard drivers, as well as sound, and video...from manufacturer's sites. Driver updates may clear up any resource conflicts.
--Use the task manager to see exactly which process may be spiking the CPU. As an example, sometimes anti-virus software will 'think' a normal process is an infection, and spike the CPU--this is not necessarilly the case, but seeing which process is spiking the cpu can help identify the problem.
--Also check for malware (just in case): http://www.ewido.net/en/
Try putting the card in another PC and see if it does the same thing.  This will tell you if the card is bad or not.
Thank you all for your intrest.

The problem is found but not sold.

when I uninstalled the drivers of the card each time i never thinked of removing also the programs of the Satelite card ...
When I did that the lag stoped and everything works ok..
I re installed the software and again i had the lag...

So it mast be something with the programs that come with the card.
I ll try to find aftermarket programs to use.

p.s.
I installed the card in another pc (celeron 1.Ghz) and it worked fine (i didnt installed the programs in this pc though..only the card and the drivers).
