Bulk export Bulk Import Exchange Mailboxes.

I have to migrate part of the data of an exisiting server to a new SBS 2003 server.
I want to dump a selection of  users mailboxes into the new server.

Can somebody advise me how to do that?

You need to re-create the users/mailboxes on the new server.  You can use Exmerge to export the mailboxes to PST and then import them into the new server.

Exmerge is a utility thats included as part of the Support Utilities on the exchange CD for just this purpose.

1. Use Exmerge utility, Take out the content from the users mailboxes to .pst
2. Create the users/mailboxes on the new server with same name.
3. Run Exmerge again to import the contents back.

Greetings:

Is the new server on the same network?  Are you actually migrating?  Or just increasing available storage by implementing another server?

You don't have to use exmerge to move them to another server.  Moving mailboxes is available thru exchange tasks.

NFR key for Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365

Veeam is happy to provide a free NFR license (for 1 year, up to 10 users). This license allows for the non‑production use of Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 in your home lab without any feature limitations.

If you are planning to move mailboxes, i.e. migrate, you can migrate only 4 mailboxes at a time.

Is that a limitation of the standard edition of Exchange 2003?

I don't agree with the comment. There's no limit defined by MS of moving mailboxes form one server to another.

Kunal,

I believe what einstein was saying is that, you can move 4 mailboxes simultaneously.  Which is correct.

As with Exchange 2003, now the move mailbox wizard is multi threaded and it moves 4 mailboxes simultaneously.

You can change that setting in registry if required.

Also if you are using exmerge, you have to see which version of exchange it is.

Because the .pst file also has a limit of 20GB (unless you are using exchange 2003 in unicode mode format).

Hope that helps.

Thanks

It moves 4 mailboxes at a time, but you can flag any number to be moved.  Same with exmerge.  It processes four at a time, but you can flag as many as you want.

Have to migrate 20 mailboxes from an existing mail server differant organization to our new Exchange 2003 server.
Don't know what mailserver they are using just mailed the question to them.

Am I allowed to rename the pst to new usernames and then import them with exmerge?

Greetings:

You would have to rename them to match the accounts on the new system.

You can also just leave them as PST's and have the users map it in their own Outlook Profile, and retrieve the mail they wish to keep.

Or map the mailboxes with an admin accounts, and import the PST's individually into the users mailboxes (which does not require renaming becuase you would be able to choose the file).
