Outlook 2003 won't synch to OST for one user only

Brand new Dell computer with fresh Office 2003 professional.  
When attempting to create an offline store with cached mode, the store isn't displayed and several sync issues happen with a message:
'Microsoft Exchange Server' reported error (0x80040107) : 'Could not open the item. Try again.'
We had to restore exchange about 2 months ago including the stores but this user is the only one with the OST probem.  When I remove Offline storage, his complete store is displayed without a hitch.  I looked at a couple error reports on this forum but they didn't help including checking the public folder address book server property which display my mail servers name.  Any ideas?

Hi chitchcock,

Two thoughts.  First, have you deleted all existing .ost files from the user's profile folder then restarted Outlook and let it attempt to create a new .ost?  Second, have you checked the permissions on the folder where the .ost file goes?

I did delete the old ost's.  The permissions on local/microsof/outlook (ost location) appear fine.  I deleted 3 osts I created from scratch with no luck

A new profile for the same user or a profile for a new user?
I will try another user
I recreated a new user and he too can not get his OST.  This is probably due to something local on the machine itself.  I create the original user on another machine and his OST works so it looks like problem solved.  Thanks for your help BlueDevilFan.  CHUCK
