My docs folder redirection - 2 ways to do it / 2 results?!

IN SBS 2K3, in the users part of server managment, you can simply enable my docs folder redirection and you get a path like - \\server\users\bob to hold bob's my docs.

But then if you edit a folder redirection gpo for the other folders and happen to do that also for my docs and yo uhave roaming profiles of \\server\profiles\bob, I seem to wind up with the docs in \\server\users\bob\bob's docs.  is that right?  2 different ways to redirect my docs to the server and 2 different result?  And which do people recommend?!

Recommended way is from sbs Wizard.

There is nothing wrong with using GPO , However I can tell you the more you use the Already provided Wizard from SBS the more you will stay away from Trouble.

so you'd use the gpo for the other folder redirecton (app settings, desktop, etc0, but not touch the m docs folder redirect in the GPO?  you still use the folder redirection in the gpo for the other folders, right?  and you use roaming profiles to get as much data as possible oon the server?
Murat RaymondCIOCommented:
It all depends
I use MyDocuments redirection because of Shadow Copy and I only backup the server. The Roaming profile is not that important for me.

so any idea why I am getting these sub folders like 'bob's my documents" under \\server\users\bob? and or what the my docs wizard does differently from going into the folder redirection settings of the group policy?  that group policy seems to make it bob\bob's my docs, vs. the redirect wizard just sets it at \\server\files\bob.

Hold on a second... am I going crazy?  (very likely)...

if you use the my docs redirection wizard, it makes a user folder under \\server\users.  But does it also create a subfolder of \\server\users\username\usern's documents?

I could have sworn it wasn't.  But when I started using the GPO to redirect my docs, that's when it seemed to make the username's  my docs...

If they both do the same thing (create the subfolder), then I've got no issue. other than wanting to not have that subfolder at all....

Yes it does and it also apply the correct credentials for unauthorized access.
