Backup Exec 7.3 problem

I have Backup Exec 7.3 and would like to not only backup to tape but to a hard drive.  I can't figure out how to setup the hard drive as a valid backup media.  I have done this with version9.1, but can't figure out how to do it in this verson???

    B2D wasn't introduced until version 8.6 so I'm afraid you're out of luck unless you use a virtual tape device. Virtual tape devices are disk units that look to the OS and backup apps asif they are tape drives.

    Look at for example, first version listed is 8.6.
