Autocomplete works sporadically

I am having an issue when addressing and email that outlook sometimes shows the autocomplete drop-down and sometimes not, even for the same contact. I am also having an issue with Outlook not closing properly so when I go to shut down I have to manually end the process. Don't know if it is related. I tried to do a detect and repair but it could not file the file they needed.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Greetings, ablondeau !

1. The problems are not likely related.  Outlook gets its autocomplete lists from Contacts list and from NK2 file. NK2 file may be corrupted.  Close Outlook. Search for and rename *.NK2 file.  When Outlook opens, new NK2 file will be created.

NK2 file is located in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder.  It is a hidden file. It is a hidden file. Go to any folder and select Tools > Folders Options > View. Check "Show hidden files and folders".  Click OK.

2. For Outlook not shutting down, there is a program accessing it.  Disable addins.
