Backup to network drive

I need to backup 2 servers with about 110 GB of data, plus exchange and SQL. We are currently looking into different types of solutions for this, and am leaning towards backing up this data to a removable hard drive. We would have 4 hard drives and one would be off site at all times.

(1 monthly backup, 1 weekly, and the rest would be daily incremental)

This solution is much less expansive than any tape drive and media solution that I can find for 100+ GB of data... Is there any reason that I may want to go with tape instead anyway?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Tapes are best and the most cost effective if you need to archive a lot of data for a long period of time. Although the tape drives are costly the tapes themselves are usually pretty cheap. This is important if you will write to this tape only once.

Another good option if you need to archive data and that amount of data isn't too much, would be to archive to CD or DVD, as often it is only necessary to archive some special data and not all of your files.

If you don't need to archive old data forever your backup to disk system is probably the most cost effective option.

Thank you very much for this thorough answer!! I will go ahead with the removable hard drive option.

Thanks again!
