open .xls file using 2.0 with c#

Hi all,
i am able to create, load and display an excel file using a datadrid or a gridview control.  Now i need to reverse this process and create a dataset or datareader from an excel file so that i can use it to programatically.

***mainly if i can just open the .xls file using 2.0 with  c# that would really be a big help*****

    ADD: the .xls file is stored on the server and others on the web and intranet need the option to open it in their browser or save it to thier local machine.
