Multi and Single Mode on one switch

There are switches on the market that can handle both single and multimode GBICs. Does this mean that the switch can handle both single and multimode fiber connection simultaneously? If so I could combine my multi and single mode fiber connections on one switch.

Please advise.

as long as you have the correct gbics.

single-mode gbics use lasers and are for longer distances.

multi-mode will use led's or similar light source. Fiber diameters are different as well.

So, in short, it's not the switch that's the limitation, it's the gbics.
