Hi yavenptah,
> Factory Settings

If you are thinking about bios settings enter in the bios (<F1> or <F2> or <F12>) and set restore to system defaults.

About Operating System, backup your data and use the dell recovery cd's to re-image the system.

if you did not get your CD's from dell and your contract with them has expired, they will not send you the restore cd's.

some dell's have a recovery partition.  your OS files may be in there.

This is a great guide for reinstalling on a Dell:  http://www.djdenham.com/Install%20Procedures.htm  . .

Depending on when it was purchased, you may have a recovery partition . . this guide will walk you thru that also
