Sharing File in Windows 2000 Pro

Hi All,

Before format the Win 2000 Pro PC, everybody (Win98, Win2k and WinXP) can see and access the files in Win2000 Pro PC, we no need enter the password.

But after formatted this Win2000, some file share in this PC also, but when we access the share file, the windows asking us enter the login name and password. We set to remember password. When we reboot the PC and try to access the share file again, windows asking enter user name and password again

Why before format we no need enter the user name and password, after format we need? Please advise.

Of course I know how to share the Files and Folders over the Network, I just dot not understand why I have to enter user name and password when I access the Files and Folders. Before format this PC, no need to enter user name and password.

For an user to access file or folder on Windows 2000 PC without having to type username and password (authentication) make sure to create coresponding user account on Windows 2000 PC (exact same user name and password).

Also check that it's in the same workgroup as the rest of the PC's on the network.  If the workgroups are the same and you have the user accounts configured as nedvis states above it should all work.

Just another thing I have thought of.   When you say after you reboot the PC you have to re-enter them, are you refering to the Win2k box hosting the files or a client PC?

nedivs,

Yes if create an account exact same name and password then I no need to enter the user name and password. Before format this PC, the administrator did not create a extra same user name and password, but others user can access this pc without enter user name and password.

There are same workgroup.
