Cannot install exchange connector for lotus

Hi,

I am trying to install the exchange lotus connector on a Windows 2k Server SP4 running Exchange 5.5. I have run through the prerequisites and loaded the Lotus client successfully. I am logged in as the domain administrator.

When I try installing the connector software, when it gets to the  last stage of installation it errors out saying that the current user logged on is not part of the administrator's group. I get the same message whether Exchange services are running or not.

Any ideas?

You need to be in the Domain Admin posssibly, rather than just a local Admin.
If not then try as a Local Admin.

I hope this helps !

IS the Exchange Server running as a service ?

If so, then under what user ?

Yes it is running under the domain admin user. Tries creating a service account, didn't help. Tried running the services as local admin user, didn't work. So currently domain admin user. Exchange works absolutely fine and is seen under the site on other exchange 5.5 boxes. Checked all permissions in exchange manager, made sure they are all correct. Very strange, can't understand why this is happening. Even tried reinstalling the whole box but even that didn't help. Not an easy one!

I have no experience with that connector. The message you describe makes me assume that a certain group is looked for by the installation procedure. Is there an Installation Guide? It may contain that vital piece of information for you.

Two cents will do...

I'm talking about the exchange connector for lotus. Ofcourse there is a manual which we've heavily read and ensured all the prerequisites have been met.

See:

It says something about an Administrators Group on the Windows server...

Oh b*ll*cks, just trying to help out. Last contribution then: put a 20-point question in the Exchange TA with a link to this question.

And I could send this question to another Expert who isn't very often @ EE...

He "can't get caught up in EE stuff now". His suggestion: "I would have Exchange reinstalled. Also, check the prereq's on the version of the connector -- is it still 5.5 compatible?  been a while since I had to touch 5.5".

That's it.

Exchange connector 5.5 requires an ID associated with the mail file that is being used to route messages.  that ID: call it "Exchange Person" (and if I recall) needed to sit in the administration group, if you have such a group, called, "Admistrators" then put that ID in that group, and use that ID when installing the connector.

Also, if you have more than one mail.box on your server, you need to specify in the configuration on the Exchange side, mail01.box (or the exact name of mai01.box)

It also needs an adjacent domain document, but I assume you read that information.

Which one, the Notes or Exchange User.. rereading your question, let's see.. you create the ID and mail file on the Domino Notes server, you create the adjacent domain on the Domino Server and connection documents from the Domino server to your Exchange server.  The domino stuff is pretty straighforward.  The exchange ID must have at least editor rights with delete permissions on the Domino Side, and needs to be able to access all mail files.

When you install the client on the Exchange Server, you need to be sure you can ping the Domino server, since, for all intents and purposes, that is a client running on the Exchange server.  So, you log in as the NT administrator/ to install the Notes Client or the exchange connector?

From your error, it seems as if you're problem is (as sjefs suggests) a login issue with the NT or Exchange Server.  So, when you're doing this install, are you logged in as a NT System Administrator, or as the Local (Computer) Administrator?

Also, compatibility:  if running R5, then you must use Exchange 5.5 SP3,  or the latest patch.
http://www.notestips.com/80256B3A007F2692/1/TAIO-68RFCS << say it works with R6, but you MAY have to use the 4.6  or 5.0 client on the Exchange server.
