Migrate WSUS from existing 2003 server to new hardware

I've bought a new IBM x366 server for my "management server".

I know how to migrate most of the software/apps over to the new one (trying to keep them up in parallel as long as possible), but I don't know how to do a WSUS "move"....

I'm going from:

Server 2003
hostname - serverA
IP - 10.10.10.1

to the exact same name and IP address.

Is there a way to move the WSUS stuff from what server to the other?  I read on mcse.ms that somebody simply installed WSUS on the new server, then overwrote the WSUS directory with the old server's info.  Will this actually work?

Any help on how to do this is appreciated...thanks!

Mazaraat, the migration tool link is incorrect as is the documentation link for the migration tool.

Are you sure the migration tool will do a wsus 2003 to wsus 2003 migration?  I thought it was for a SUS/WUS to WSUS migration...

ooops! sorry =)

Here is the documentation for WSUS that you need:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=E99C9D13-63E0-41CE-A646-EB36F1D3E987&displaylang=en

you will want to read the portion about "disconnected networks" on pg 75-78, it has step-by-step.

summary of work:
Export the data from the old server, install software on new server, copy the content from old to new, then import the metadata on the new server.

After your done creating your "disconnected network" WSUS installation, you can turn the old server off and publish new GPO pointing the new server.

hah...

OK, so basically reading and looking at that, I'm manipulating the "disconnected network" idea, by getting the current updates to the new WSUS server (just like the picture on page 14 shows), and then simply decomming the old server and pointing the GPO to use the new server.  Sound right?

lol, understand.  We use PeopleSoft 8.11 (or JDE, or Oracle, depending on who bought whom recently)...

I just had a lot of free time at the beginning of the year while planning for new projects.
