Hide Password field

Hi i have created a script that takes in staff details and puts them into a database and one of the fields in a password field how do i stop the password being seen i.e put dots or astrixes on the screen rather than the actual password?

Use password as the input type:
<INPUT TYPE="password" NAME="password">
