How to setup VPN users with static internal addresses in RRAS
Hi,
I am looking to find out if a company is running Server 2003 with RRAS, how do I setup users connecting via VPN to get same the ip every time they login. This is meant for backing up data puropose. If I have the laptop connected on the same ip then I can backup the data from the individual laptops on daily basis even though these users are working remotely. The RRAS assigns an ip address from a pool of 10 ip's in the dhcp scope listed on the server. I have my Sonicwall as the DHCP server for all other pc's on the network behind the firewall using a different scope of ip's.

The Laptop and Desktop option on Veritas does solve this issue for me. I tested and it worked perfectly as long as the remote user is connected thru vpn to the Veritas Backup Server.
great. thanks
I recommend moving to a central dhcp server on a windows server. no need to use two dhcp servers.
I remember wanting to do that with windows 2000.. and never found a way to make it static. Try using hostnames or a product like
"laptop desktop option" for veritas backup exec. It is awsome. Much more bandwidth efficient.
