ARP broadcasts from HP Laserjet
I periodically put a sniffer on my LAN and just yesterday noticed a lot of ARP broadcasts coming from an HP4600n laserjet. They are much more frequent than usual. I have rebooted the printer, but no change in ARP behavior. The printer has an
internal Jetdirect card that came with the printer when purchased new from HP. Any ideas on why this may be happening?

How do you have it configured? What networking protocols are turned on?
ASKER
It has a 10.1.x.x IP. I have TCP/IP, SNMP, DLC/LLC turned on.

I turned off DLC/LLC and SNMP, and the ARPs died down. I decided to go ahead and upgrade the firmware on the
Jetdirect card (had to enable SNMP for that), and since then the ARPs have returned to normal. I will keep my eye
on it for one more day and if it does not occur again I will consider this case solved and closed.

Cool. Just let me know.

This problem continued even after the firmware upgrade. However, I have since turned off the SNMP protocol and it
has stopped.
has stopped.
