Are you talking about the sharing pane in Classic or the System Preferences in OS X? Sorry, your question is a little unclear.

Wow - I've never heard of that happening. Take a look in System > Library > PreferencePanes and check for the presence of SharingPref.prefPane.

ok in that preferences panes folder is a folder called sharingpref.temp save inside there is info.plist, mac os folder, resources folder and version.plist, inside mac os folder is sharing pref looks like a unix file seems like the fork is missing

I can see what's happened, and fortunately it's not fork-related. The SharingPref.prefPane file is actually a 'package', and should execute normally when it has the correct name. As something has renamed it, the system doesn't recognise it as a package anymore, and thinks it's a folder. Try renaming the SharingPref.temp file back to SharingPref.prefPane and see if that fixes it.

Perhaps repair permissions too.

Yes that's true - sorry, I forgot we're working within the System folder. You should be able to copy the folder onto your desktop, then rename it, and copy it back in (it will ask you to authenticate). I would definitely suggest repairing permissions after doing this.
