Cannot join workgroup

I have a laptop with Win2K. I want to join the local workgroup for networking. But when I go to the Network Identificaion tab under My Computer, the area used to enter (and change) the workgroup name is greyed out. I can change the computer name, but not the workgroup name.

How do I get this PC to join the workgroup?

    Accepted Solution

Do you have "Client for Microsoft Networks" installed?  You can install it under properties for your network connection.

    Assisted Solution

This also occurs if the Workstation Service has been stopped. Check under Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services whether the Workstation service has been started.
