SMTP Auth from Outlook stopped working after upgrade to 8.12.11 - 'did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA' in mail log - redhat 9
A sendmail security release upgrade (sendmail-8.12.11-4.24.1.l egacy.src. rpm) was installed two nights ago. Since that time our configuration that used to allow SMTP Auth from Outiook no longer accepts logins for outgoing mail. (We have people who travel and need to use this feature). We are running Redhat 9.
When I attempt SMTP Auth login by using the 'test connection' button in Outlook with a known account, I see this line immediately in the /var/log/maillog file:
ool-4572078X.dyn.optonline .net [69.114.7.XXX] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA
Thanks,

I think you have helped -- that was obvious but I did not think of it.
The sendmail.mc file did not get over-written, but got modifed.
Apparently the line
dnl TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`LOGIN PLAIN')
got changed to
dnl TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`LOGIN PLAIN') dnl define(`confAUTH_MECHANISM
I am waiting for feedback from users, but I think its fixed!
THANK YOU!
