I have been asked this by mate mate via email, and need some help.
It is very obscure, so here goes:

Its in the words..
They could do this face to face but they dont

Yeah, it's probably text messaging or emailing. The 40 hours a week indicates it's done during the workweek, so it's probably emailing the boss rather than asking a question face to face.
