Forms - Lists (drop down)

I want to make a form with three drop down lists that are all interconected.  See example at http://www.cluemachines.com/listings/listings.php?action=show-all-listing-form.  As you can see, when I choose a topic from the top list, the second list changes to correspond with my choice.  Can this be done in Dreamweaver?  How complicated is this?

Regards,
Dave

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi livewirewebsolutions,

They way they are doing it is fairly complicated.  This is not native to Dreamweaver, although you may be able to find a extension that does it.  You need to use javascript to do this.

View the page source to see the javascript they are using.  Basically, onChange fires a function that opens a PHP page and runs a query to get the values for the next box and probably rewrites the CSS class to make it visible.

Here's a tutorial that does something similar:

There is a way to do this entirely on the client side using javascript.  I swear there used to be functionality to do this built into Dreamweaver but I can't find it in v8, along with a whole lot more...

Anyway, Macromedia's tutorial is here http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14924

Rouchie,

I've been on board with DW since v3 and I've never seen this functionality...

Javascript jump menus, yes.  Dynamic list boxes, yes.  Cascading dynamic list boxes, uh-uh.

If you can remember which version, I'll dig out the CD and install it...I want this support too!

I saw a screen grab yesterday while searching for this solution and definitely remember having the same functionality, although a LONG time ago.  I think it was v4 as that's the first one I got.
The functionality appeared as a large dialogue box where you enter the values for the first drop-down, and then alongside each one enter the values to appear in the second drop-down when the first selection is made.  Unless my version came with some sort of 'extension bonus' I'm going to keep my eyes open and if I find this functionality I'll send you an email with the details.

Cool, thanks.

Now if I could only remember which box I stuck all of the old CDs in...
