How to repair win2000 without a ERD
Is this possible ?
Or do i NEED to create an ERD (and if so does it have to be made on the machine that i am repairing)

Of course its possible. In fact, I never make ERDs any more. I just do system state backups. The old ERD was little more than a registry backup. So if you backup your registry, you can try to recover. In fact, with 2000 the ERD would only make a backup copy of the registry in the C:\WINNT\REPAIR folder. Only catch is, you can't use the automated process that's a part of the Windows Setup when you boot.

How do i go ahead without an ERD ?
I'm trying to do a Fast repair, but it asks for the ERD, and when i tell them to press L for windows to locate the files, it doesn't work, and asks for the ERD again.
I cant get into the system via safe mode or normally

the error when they boot normally is a corrupt winnt\system32\config\Syst em.ced file

Ok, downlaoded a windows boot disk onto 4 floppy disks and booted from there to reinstall windows
So you didn't like the BartPE solution? Was the CD bootable?
ASKER
Didn't try that as the floppy did the job.
Thanks for your help anyway
