Computer halting/restarting/BSOD ATAPI.SYS windows media edition

Ok so Finally got my computer to load up and go into windows

Here is where im at now

In the computer itself is

New 120 seagate HD from Bestbuy
2.8 Intel 4 almost BN
1 agp ati 9600 pro
1 stick 1 gig ddr400 pc3200
Asus p4s800 motherboard new updated bios 1010 version
O/S windows media edition SP2
--------------------------------------------------------------------

And thats it, its at barebones totally i even disconnected the CDrom

Here is the issue

It will boot right into XP media edition (I know all the system files are good i copied over from a friends HD which was working np)

When i get into windows i can use it anywhere from 1 minute to 5 minutes then it does 3 things

1. Just restart sometimes, blackscreen then restart
2. Lock up and halt, have to manually restart it
3. Bluescreen and throw a

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Error

atapi.sys

This 3rd problem is the 99% of what happens and i have been doing google yahoo you name it trying to figure out what is happening. no luck nothing i can find or do i have been trying everything.

PS

(Stop 0x000000D1 or DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Few more thigns to note, I can go into windows fast and make checkdisk do a check before windows comes back the next time

It can never complete the checkdisk always halts around 20%-85% of the 4th test data strutcue storage, it bluescreens to the atapi.sys error or just restarts, it can do this 40 times over, never check all the way through.

The only thing i havent replaced is the motherboard itself, but i have 2 motherboards im using a newer one.

Im at work at the  moment, when I get home ill try to find the codes.

I have looked at abotu 20 other version or the same problems as myself but never could find a direct answer, some people fix it with ram some fix it with a new hardware component of a reinstall. I am just stumped beyond belief now. I have tried everything that I can think of under the sun. The only other thing i can do is buy a new motherboard and see if just the MB itself has something going wrong with it. That will take me 3-4 days though have to order and recieve it. I really dont think MB should be bad.
Try Everest to do diag test etc.  http://www.lavalys.com

Those are the erros in the viewer anythign else you guys need to try to figure this one out?? please let me know, also im doing all this in safemode with networking running fine. Any help is appreciated thanks. Few things. I tried to disable the atapi.sys xp didnt like that just bsod me until i put it back. I tried to swtich the DMA to PIO only that worked no problems but didnt fix anythign still BSOD atapi.sys.  Thanks

Try this:

When you get in windows, get to Device Manager and look for IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller. Under expand the + sign, you should see Primary IDE channel, Secondary IDE channel, and very first one is such as Intel, or VIA, or whatever, bur I assume yours is Intel. Right click on it and choose Update driver. When Hardware Update Wizard appears, choose option "Install from a list ...", then "Dont search. I will install driver....", then choose Standard Dual PCI IDE controller. Click Next and Finish. Reboot system if required.

Let us know if it works for you.
