How to send a character to an external editor?

does anybody know how to send a character to an external application, I mean editors, comboboxes etc. The only thing which should be specified is where is the cursor in the active window of an external editor.

    sendkeys can send Tab keys to move focus

    Everything works fine, thanks, but my main problem is to send a character. The 'sendkeys' procedure sends the keystrokes only and what if I had an international characters?

    procedure TSendkeys.SendKeysTo(WindowTitle : string; const text: String);

    it sends a string
    i don't know about international characters though... never work on it...
