Presentation server 4.0 installation failed abruptly because of an error

the operating system is Windows 2003.  I have the licenses installed correctly and terminal services also installed in App mode.

any errors generated in the registry?

how far do you get in the installation?  and what components do you have selected to install?

I've seen this happen with damaged installation media. If you're installing from a CD, make sure that its clean & scratch free. You can download the installation media from MyCitrix - http://citrix.com/mycitrix

i am installing from a file. I have installed the web insterface , the management console, license server etc. The installation fails at the presentation server. Suddenly it says "rolling back" and starts unistall the presentation server.
I installed using the same file on a test server and installed just fine.

The above command is what i found from the citrix site claiming that this error happens because the installation cannot find the license server.  So u kind of forcing it to learn the name of the license server. In any case it didnt work.

Citrix have an article on how to troubleshoot installation errors by creating an MSI installation log file - http://support.citrix.com/article/entry.jspa?entryID=5725 . If the log doesn't make it plain what the problem is, post it here and we'll see what we can work out.

how do i change the server line to be testa ? (this is where the lic. are installed)

was HOPS01 the previous name of your server?  did you rename it after installing the license server software?

well HOPS01 is where i found the license file. I am installing citrix on a different server TESTA.
I opened the license files with wordpad and i manually changed the name ( but it keeps on switching the server name to HOPS01)

That might be the issue.

the license file says that the hostname name is testa (all lower case) . During the install , when it comes to the license server i enter testa (although it is already written as TESTA , but i change it to testa)
still the installation fails with the error " installation failed due to an error" . The only error i see is a tthe above log file.

when downloading/installing licenses from mycitrix.com you have to specify the name of the server and can't just move licenses from server to server.  Is this what you have done?  If you originally downloaded these license files from mycitrix you will have to re-download them for the proper server.

You can't change the name of the license server in the .lic file, you have to get a new license file from MyCitrix. Note that the name is CaSe Sensitive.

where is the HOSTNAME=TESTA (is this the server name ? cauz the server name is testa (all lower case)
also the lic file also says that Hostname=testa.
I downloaded the license file from citrix to the testa server and uploaded and even saw the license key that was registered correclty.

the above line though (mismatch between hostname and HostID might be causing the issue)

Whats interesting is that Citrix was succesfully installed on another server with out any license files. (actually the previous server had wrong license files on ) but the installation was completed.

The issue is on Hosta server.

The licensing server name that you enter in MyCitrix to create the .lic file must be an exact case-sensitive match to the output of the "hostname" command from a command prompt on the licensing server.

Check the values of each of the following registry keys - they should all be a case sensitive match to the server name you entered in MyCitrix, and also check that there isn't a space at the end of each of the values.

Are you trying to install this onto a Domain Controller?  Starting at PS 3 and above you can't install onto a Domain Controller

yes , it is a domain controller.  (i read it on the citrix web page, you are right )

But i had it installed on a domain controller......

i will also try to install in on a member server....keep ya'll posted.
