Background thread BackgroundCleanupPeriodic halted on database "SG2\SG2-DB2" due to error code 0x800004005.

The only info I could find was pertaining to an NOT-UPDATED Exchang 2000 installation (SPs needed). We however run an updated version of Exchange 2003 and are getting this from time to time! :(

Please help!

Thanks,

Kaj

Could you post the full event log entry. Event ID, everything.

Exchange 2003 SP2?
on which version of Windows?

What else is installed on this machine?
What are you doing for backups?
Does this error occur during the backup window?

You would have got a better response in the Exchange TA: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Email_Groupware/Exchange_Server/

Exchange 2003 SP2, Windows Server 2003 latest patches, This is ONLY an exchange server. Use ntbackup for this server. It didn't occur during backup.

Research on those events is pointing towards the file system.
Throwing things back such as ensuring that antivirus software is configured to ensure that it is not scanning the Exchange directories.
Also to ensure that the backup is running correctly and flushing the transaction logs correctly. Make sure that those aren't building up.
Then the classic ensuring that there is enough space on the drives that have the Exchange logs, databases and application files.

Hi,

Symantec Antivirus is configured to ignore all the exchange directories including the logg file drives etc.,

We backup the logs EVERY NIGHT because we did run out of space on the logs drive once.

Why are you backing up the logs? They are close to useless to you.
If you are doing a full information store backup then they should be flushed automatically. If your logs aren't being flushed then you may have further problems with the Exchange system.

err sorry that's what I meant. We backup the store ...and the logs get flushed...

You posted the question in a very quiet topic area.
Unlike a forum, once a question is past 48 hours old, most people will not look at it again. The only thing I can suggest is that you post a pointer question in the main Exchange server topic area and see if anyone else chips in.

From my point of view I would seriously consider removing the Symantec Antivirus from the server totally. I have seen it kill more Exchange servers than any other product.
