Email messages with read receipt - Exchange server ent edition 2003

Hi all
I am using exchange server 2003 ent editon.  Clients use outlook 2003, whenever a message with any read receipt comes in outlook 2003 is unable to download it from the exchange server and the outlook just sits and waits and the downloading bar just shows staying at one point and at the end I get error message (I forgot to note the #).  But this happens mostly with the emails which have 'Read Receipt',  tables or even sometimes the embeded pics.  Please help how can I make the outlook to download all messages without going onto OWA and deleting messages.
THanks

Are your clients using POP3 or native MAPI to download the messages?
Have you got anything installed on these machines that could be detecting the read receipt and blocking the email message? Antivirus or antispam?

Thanks Simon
My clients use POP3 to download messages from the exchange server.
Yes we use sophos antivirus and Microsoft antispyware on all our clients.  But I also have these two programs and have never found trouble downloading emails with tables, pics etc.  Do you think I can somehow config these two programs to allow flawless download of emails from exchange?

Thanks Sembee
There are some people in the office who like the old lagecy style, they do not like changes at all.  They do not want there direct connection with the mailboxes etc they simply want POP3, so we start using pop3.  Sembee I have now 'ms defender beta as well as sophos on my system.  I have no trouble at all downloading any embedded pics or tables from the exchange server at all.
thanks
