I meant to add also that their sales folks are real good a convincing management that their tools are good for the enterprise, but most admins that I know believe that it is a waste of money unless you are dealing with tens of thousnads of users and clustered machines.

The sun tools do a;
man metastat

and that will give you an explanation of the sun tool and list other commands to look at in the man pages.
