hp color laserjet printer 5200L operation

How do hook up a  hp color laserjet printer 5200L  to a new hp pavilion dv5000.  The new laptop does not have a parellel port.  I tried a usb to parellel adaptor, and a usb to a usb...........neither worked.  The laptop acknowleges the printer, but the printer won't print anything from many methods of programming.  I get an error reading on the computer.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Wanted to confirm the Model # HP Laserjet 5200L might two numbers have been transposed and it should reflect HP Color Laserjet 2500L?

Thanks!!   :-)

Did you install a driver for the printer? You say the laptop acknowledges the printer. I assume that means a "New hardware found" window pops up. At that stage you will need the printer's CD to install a driver.

If you don't have the CD, and assuming you meant to say "2500L" instead of "5200L", you will find the drivers here:

To continue on with the theme that this is an HP Color Laserjet 2500L, the following link should provide most anything you might want for this printer:

Yes, the printer is a 2500L...........Yes, I  had already have downloaded the drivers and believe them to be correct.............I strongly feel the problem lies between the connectivity of the old and the new...........  possibly slower printer vs. faster laptop????   I will do some research on the link you provided and let you know.  Thanks!
