Altering the Schema

unless i have missed it, there is no field for "phone Extension"

I know i can use any field i like but it would be nice to have it properly, can i change the name of a filed safly?  be it pager or a custom atribute.

or is it best leaving alone.?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi mhamer,

heres my two cents

i started studying for my MCSE a little while ago and the first chapter of my book and tutorial CD's was abou editing AD schema. The bloke made it look so simple and easy that i was convinced i could do whatever i wanted with the schema! however, playing with the schema can be a very dangerous thing unless you have read and understand exactly what you are doing!!

hello mate,

i have been messing around with the schema side of things for you this afternoon and havent had much success. I started with the schema managament tool but this didnt lead me to anything. I found the IP Phone attribute that you were wanting changed, but this attribute cannot be edited.

trialling with adsiedit at the moment but i dont like your chances so far...... will let you know

well ADSIEDIT did provide much use either - no way that i can see to alter the value of a prexisting data string

cheers
