I've been given the task of having to make an applet in Java.

How can I get started making applets in Java? I have no experience whats so ever with java, what compiler would you recommend? Tutorials?

first you have to download the jdk latest version, object gave that link

http://java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/new2java/programming/learn/

this link shows how to run applet

applet is a small window that would run inside the browser.

you contruct the graphical use interface like button, textbox and perform event handling

you construct the component  and perform event handling through awt and swing package

here is the tutorial
