To get out of the hang, you may have to kill the graphics server (X server?) by hitting Ctrl + Alt + Backspace. If all is OK, you should be able to get a command line interface, from which you can run the utilities mentioned above.<br />

I had my computer crash on me not to long ago and KDE will not start up. &nbsp;I get to the login but after that it freezes. &nbsp;How do I repair KDE? &nbsp;I'm not very good with Linux so be very elementary with the answer. &nbsp;I'm on the Knoppix distro.
