AOL - fails to initialise DSL Modem

I am on AOL 9.  My modem is a BT Voyager.  If I attempt to connect as soon as I boot up, I connect with no problems.  However, if I delay by even 30 seconds, I get stuck at step 2 with the message 'Initialising DSL modem'.  My only way of connecting has been to re-boot and try again.  This is inconvenient, as you can imagine.  AOL have been informed and they were useless, suggesting that it is a problem with my PC.  My operating system is XP Home.  I am based in the UK.
Any suggestions please.

when you sign on. .go to EXPERT SETUP, then Detect new devices.   AOL will re-initialize the connection and log you in. (provided you have the correct login info)

I have gone to Expert setup and detect new devices but AOL is only detecting dial up and not DSL

locate TCP/IP via broadband instead of dialup.... (I'm recalling from memory..as this happened a few days ago at a client location)..  it was a 3-4 step process that took 15 seconds...

The problem occurred with an update to AOL..not quite sure, but have a feeling that it was the security updates..  keep the above recipe as this may come up again for you.
