Flash/ASP integration: Best way to pass data?

Hi,
i'm working on a flash application for the web which would require getting huge amount of data from an Oracle database.

Now, from prior experience i know that i have to use name-value pairs to print the data out on the asp page and then load it into flash using loadVariables. However, the size of the data being large, is this the best method to use? What if the asp page times out? Would XML be a better option?

In case you've worked on a similar kind of a project, I would appreciate it if you could point a link to it with your advice.

Thanks,
FF

p.s. Kindly note that i am using Flash 8 and there is no chance of using ASP.NET as the middle-tier

I would really suggest making use of XML if you're going to be making use of a lot of data. It'll require quite a lot of work but it should make things easier. With regards to pointing you to a link: http://www.geocities.com/trigger_happy_elite/csite.zip

That's the class site that i worked on (and was forced to abandon due to lack of time). There should be stuff there that has something to do with XML. You can use that to get an idea of how its done.

Hi trigger-happy,
First of all, i apologize for being so late to reply.

As regards your reply:
When i try to open your zip file it says that the file is corrupted. However, from what i can guess, its a basic xml-flash integration example? Actually, let me tell you that i am a intermediate flash developer and i know how to integrate flash with xml, having already written a few applications using the technique.

My doubts lie in terms of the amount of data. What i mean to ask is, if i make a request for a lot of data will it in some way time out?

In a prior project, when i was requesting about 150 lines (or 30 nodes) of xml data, it didn't time out and the application is still running fine after two years. But, in the current scenario the data might be 500-1000 lines or more, and needs to be loaded all together, i.e. i can't load it in parts.

Now we know that XML documents, though standards based, add so much in terms of node names etc. In this case what will be the safest bet? XML or Name Value Pairs?

I needed more opinions / or links to opinions / or working examples if possible. Hope that makes it more clear? :)

Thanks,
FF
