providing the raid array is the correct size, you dont have to reconfigure it.

Just install SBS, allowing it to format the drives.

so all i need to do is the re-install leave raid array alone ? wont it ask me during the install about installing raid drivers?

yes. but you said you had the dell disks.

perhaps download new drivers from dell anyway beforehand & save to cd

this is what i have all  8 premium edition cd's  then i have 4 dell power edge  1 doc 1 systems mangement consoles 1 installation and server management 1 service and diagnostic utilities I'm just a little chickin the hard drive's are configured (C) 30 gig  Healthly  215(unformated)shows all 4 during boot up  ea 80 gig
I have been told that if i run dcpromo demote the server but I understand the only way with  SBS 2003 is a clean install and have only set up raid before once on windows 2000 server  When you say I wont have to reconfigure the raid array how is that accomplished

From what you noted, you have 4 x 80G physical drives in the Raid array.

It is already configured as 1x30G + 1 x 215G 'logical' drives. This is what the OS see and is a good allocation in my opinion.

So you dont have to 'setup' the raid array.

When the box boots, it should bring up an option to configure RAID bios. Enter this. You arent going to change anything, just check the type of controller.  Should list the drives and arrays configured on them. Will also tell you what controller is and what firmware version.

Go to Dell website, support section and find the Windows2003 driver download.  Update bios as well perhaps.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/type.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&SystemID=PWE_P4_830&os=WNET&osl=en&deviceid=5646

Save to a floppy.
When installing SBS, it will ask you to press F6 to install addional drivers.  Put the floppy in and press OK.

then SBS should continue setup.

Just make sure you put all data & exchange stores on the 215G D drive.

I think it's kinda interesting that you have EIGHT SBS CD's since there aren't that many.  The Premium Edition should have six CD's at most (including the FrontPage and Outlook CD's).  Perhaps you also have separate Service Pack 1 CD's in which case that would make sense.

As for being nervious about this install... the worst that can happen is that you have to start over again... perhaps two or three times at most.  So, just make sure that you are following the Best Practices Getting Started Guide:

Points?  We're doing all of this for Points?  (okay, I know it's hard to hear direct sarcasm in forum posts... but it was there)

:-)

You should split the points as you see fit in any percentage.  FYI, giving a grade of "A" multiplies the points x4.

I'm just joking... really... I thought we were doing this for the ability to eat all the Skittles and Ice Cream we could eat without gaining a pound.  That's what I'm trading my points in for at the end of the game.
