Java PE notifier 7 - experts please subscribe

This thread is the continuation of
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Programming/Programming_Languages/Java/Q_21765176.html

In short - if you need me somewhere to do something - administrative help or whatever - post here. I will handle it or will ask Mods/Admins to help as soon as I can. You can use my mail also of course - it is all up to you.  CS is also an option but if the question is language specific, the Mods may decide to contact me anyway.

This thread will also be used for communication between experts also : for example If you are working with an Asker and you are in a dead end - just post a link here so the others can see it and come to help it.

And let me use this chance to say "Thanks" to every one of you. For all that you are doing!

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

B Grade means the solution was arrived at, but an exact answer was not given...  It's really up to the askers discretion...  That question seems to be a load of URLs and then helpful pointers, there isn't a "the answer is this" comment...

Just my opinion, and I may be wrong ;-)

I thought one-liners were enough to notify you like in the past, as to whether it needs a split/ re-open/ grade-change/ delete/ move, etc and then you decide.

The answer which was accepted was a code sample that simply collaborated all other information provided by experts already, so it cannot be the only correct answer.

It is my Q, I wanna re-open it for a split.

mrigank pointed in the right direction to use CachedRowSet, I provided the correct download link, and again - a simple code sample got away with all the points.

Something useful for the experts - we have now ability to upload files ( in our coding area it is really a good thing)
http://www.ee-stuff.com/Expert/

PS: You must login in order to access it. The login is the same as in EE ( it is saved nowhere and is only checked against the EE database for letting you in in case you wprry... ), this is an additional site for the experts/CVs/PEs/Mods and so on

Please note that the functionality is still in testing mode so in case you use it, make sure it is not too extensive for now. And please - do not upload inappropriate files... 'cause I will get really upset amongst all the rest

PS2: The site also has a few good things for Experts... it is supposed to become the community site which will work together with EE -- it is monitored from the Mods/Admins as this one is and so on.

Bad approach. On your profile, click on View Rank. Select the topic-area, month, day and year to know how many points you got in that topic-area that day. I hope you have the other mails (for other questions in which you got points that day). Add them and take the difference from the total points you earned that day ;-)

The question link:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Programming/Programming_Languages/Java/Q_21832794.html

The concern:
The second expert essentially repeated everything I said, even referring to my post for the URL to the needed resource. Perhaps the only statement of added value was the last -- "just include all the jar files in the lib to the class path". If you think that deserves an assist, well OK, I can live with that. But it sort of irked me at the time so I thought this once I would say so.

Yes, but the way he said it didn't make it look like a new Q, it looked to me more like he missed mentioning in his original Q (that he was using Eclipse and wanted to do on it). At least questioners should reply to clarify it when they are asked~! There was no point asking about Eclipse, and then objects/ shivaspk/ myself posting answers to it, when he wishes to ignore it later and accept a previous comment (which he could've done before asking about Eclipse).

Thanks again for your support m. It's all actually in connection with a 'rule' about neither i nor objects being allowed to post another comment without an intervening one from the questioner
0
Mayank SAssociate Director - Product EngineeringCommented:
I don't understand that rule - how can it lead to an account suspension? So effectively if a correct answer strikes, one shouldn't post it ;-)

No - you can be sure that objects would post the url straight to GranMod ;-) Fortunately it doesn't apply to you

I don't blame objects for that (experts keep having arguments, etc) - but its the Mods who 'decide' whether the suspension should actually be done or not.

I know why it happened...they had both agreed not to post more than one comment between comments from the Asker of the Question...

Yes there was some such rule on the page which I had posted earlier.... and I'm surprised that rule was actually followed.

A suspension is a big hard form of punishing. I think it must be taken only for really big events. GranMod could have his/her reasons, but I see in the last times "suspension" are given many more time as I remember before.
But, a suspension could be done when GranMod decide, so all we must respect his/her decision. It is a really big loosing seeing CEHJ not answering (mayankeagle, is it true he/she is not allready posting now?).
I hope CEHJ (and zzynx) come back from their decisions and GranMod see a different way of threating these events.

I will make myself clear. I do not care who started what. Next time you advertise the company you work for, you get  24 hours off the site.

If someone is speaking nonsenses against your company, let me know and do not post. I know it is hrad and blah blah but cleaning after such mess is not my Monday morning favourite thing to do. :)

And I am damn serious. I have a Mod on the case and I will requst suspension in a minute.

By the way - it is valid for anyone... just try not to go in a fight but let me handle it...

I did not post anything directly, not even the name. My company got attacked so I posted in its favour because I get paid for working here. I hope that rajesh_bala does not post anything again.

>> I have a Mod on the case and I will requst suspension in a minute

Looks like this was the only thing left now. You post a correct answer, you get your answer accepted, an idiot comes and talks bull-shit and you get suspended for just responding. Say, even criminal courts pardon self-defence. What is EE?
0
Mayank SAssociate Director - Product EngineeringCommented:

>>Looks like this was the only thing left now. You post a correct answer, you get your answer accepted, an idiot comes and talks bull-shit and you get suspended for just responding. Say, even criminal courts pardon self-defence. What is EE?

Well... this is not a court. Answering to a personal attack is a bad idea. Simply do not answer and let me handle it. When you continue posting even after I ask you to stop, you are in the same position as the one started all this. I thought we all are grown-ups that can shut up when needed and can tr yo behave professionally :)

Honestly, I would prefer never to need to ask for a suspension. But if someone plans to show full disrespect to my words as you did in the question, sorry - no way. We would not have this conversation if you had stopped after the first or the second time I asked you to stop. You did not.

And don't get the things reversed - if you get suspended in such situation it will not be for responding but for ignoring a Page Editor more than twice in the same question and advertising. I hope this made the things clear. I may be a nice person, but if I need to, I can be hard.
0
Mayank SAssociate Director - Product EngineeringCommented:
I wish the rules were slightly different in that defence was allowed. If somebody else starts an argument uselessly from a wrong point, why should the other person suffer when all he is doing is protecting himself.
0
TimYatesCommented:
The point is, that you protect yourself by alerting the PE or Mod, and get the offensive remark removed (if it is indeed offensive)

Otherwise EE will just descend into squabbling...

Take the high ground...  Grass them up, and ignore them...

Mayank SAssociate Director - Product EngineeringCommented:

We are so, by default. The problem arises when others don't behave that way.

>> We would not have this conversation if you had stopped after the first or the second time I asked you to stop. You did not.

That's because he still continued. I'm paying the price for somebody else's doing and wrong initiative.

>> I may be a nice person, but if I need to, I can be hard.

I don't know what to say to that.

>> but for ignoring a Page Editor more than twice in the same question and advertising

zzynx,

I still believe that one day you will decide that the good guys here and the not so good PE are a better reason to return than someone else to stop posting :))

In this case this was a different situation - someone unknown got over Mayank. Just because he wanted to... And the problem with Mayank was NOT that he responded at the beginning, but that he continued after I asked a few times to stop. Something that even you and the unnamed expert had never done - as far as I remember, none of you ever continued after 2 warnings in the same question :) So let's not try to search the same explanations :)

PS: On a side note... if I had been leaving  each time top experts make me scream, you would have a new PE months ago :)
0
Mayank SAssociate Director - Product EngineeringCommented:
>> Mayank was NOT that he responded at the beginning, but that he continued

I only responded by 1 when I was attacked by some 10 comments against me fiercely. Let's not start the same discussion that we already closed, over and over again. I'm through with this argument~! I know I didn't agree to what Venabili said but that is because I was forced to - I chose b/w self respect and patience. Might be a wrong decision for some, or a right one for some.

>> if I had been leaving  each time top experts make me scream, you would have a new PE months ago :)

Point.

I know I know :) I said a few times that I understand your reasoning. But until you answer him, he will bark. If noone pays attention, he will shut up :) Otherwise he feels he makes someone angry and he feels important... That's all

All I ask is when I say "Please stop" this to mean "Stop" :)

On a side note ( you know I love side notes): we have someone who appeared from nowhere and blew off the peace and . Let's ignore him and do what we do best - help the Askers - even not in Java area... :) Everyone agree?:)
