How would I go about setting up a fiber optic network in my home? How expensive would this be?

How would I go about setting up a fiber optic network in my home? How expensive would this be? What equipment would be required, and where  would I get it? Would it be tough to setup?

Thanks!

The expense would be the biggest hurdle.  But almost everything would be off the shelf, including the fiber connections themselves.

I can say if you are at least talking about fiber between switches and you went with netgear as a random vendor; its about $400 for a 24 port GB, 2 fiber slot switch; I'm guessing that that GBICs would be about $200 each.  A 3 meter patch cable would be about $60.

Creating the fiber cables themselves are a hassle and costly.  Buying off the shelf may be the better option.

If you are going down to the PC level
I've seen prices around $100-$200 for a fiber NIC and I assume that the supporting switch would be at least $400.  I haven't actively even sought to do this on a business level.  So I guess, if anyone did this already, they may be a better recommendation source.
