EXPERTS:Cleanup help needed - Delphi - thread 2

Hello everyone,

Most of you know that I am responsible for the cleanup of the old questions. When the Asker leaves a question open and there is no activity in the question for more than 21 days, the question is called abandoned and it needs to be closed administratively. But for doing this, we need someone to review the question and make a recommendation. And that is what the Cleanup Volunteers are doing.

More information can be found here: https://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp#hs7

If you decide to help, please post here and I will assign you a range. Please do not post recommendation in any question that is not assigned to you.

Please if you see a recommendation in a question you had participated in, read it and post if you object, explaining why. This will help us a lot

Thanks in advance

No, I have seen cleanup in other TA's, and I have carefully read the help. So I think I know what I need to know. But maybe not too much to start with?
1-7 April 2005. Thanks

Annie
Ok, I think I start tomorrow with those.
I don't like to cleanup in a TA where I participate in answering questions. But maybe ask me again in a few months.
Works for me :)

Yes:

1.) I will skip questions where I have participated and feel my suggestion should be accepted or part-accepted. Acceptable?

2.) I have seen some links using bookmarks. How do I find out the bookmark for a specific post. e.g. say MrBrown has 2 posts, how do I specify which post to accept?

If you use firefox, you can install the Web Developer extension. In it's toolbar you can select "Information"-"Display Anchors", and then the headers will look like this:

#16369381  Comment from PierreC
Date: 04/04/2006 12:37PM CEST

So you can copy that too, for example; http:#16369381
cwwkie,

No need for this:) It is ok to go with names only. :) It will be only for a few lists :)
Both cases are ok :)

Annie
> 1-7 April 2005. Thanks

Finished. If you are happy with it, you can assign a new range.
If I did it very badly, please don't tell me before monday, so you don't spoil my weekend :-))
Annie, When are you going to assign a range?
Annie,

If by "clear" you mean I understand it, then yes. Go ahead.
Hi Annie,

Some questions; This is listed in the help:

*  We want to improve the quality of the PAQ database. We want to move good, useful information into the PAQ and clear out old questions that were not answered or have no value to future PAQ searchers.
* As a secondary goal, we want to ensure that Experts receive the points they've earned.

This would mean that a homework question, should always get a Delete - No Refund. But especially with homework questions experts spend often a lot of time, and I want to reward that.

Something simular is this question: http:Q_21374413.html. I have recommended the first comment, because I think it answers the question. But looking again, I might not be usefull for future PAQ searchers, and the link in the question is no longer valid. Would it be better to recommend a delete for such a question in the future?

In http:Q_21379211.html I first recommended a delete, but after objections, I changed my recommendation. What do you think of that?

Some of my recommendations woke up the asker (http:Q_21383202.html, http:Q_21387461.html, http:Q_21385121.html). That makes me think what I should do if the asker would post something useful at that point. I saw something simular in http:Q_21365835.html (handled by kacor). The must usefull comment was posted by the asker. Would that be a reason for a PAQ - Refund? I think it is good if a asker gets back to his/her question, but it should be done earlier. btw, in this particular example the asker has abandoned the question again....

Oh, and I have written a small greasemonkey script which makes it a lot easier to post the recommendations. I wanted to improve my javascript skills a long time, this was a good reason to start with it. If someone else who cannot use fastcat too is interested, I can post it here. (http:Q_21723765.html would be a great place, but it is locked)
> Speaking for FastCat... check your mail/profile

And do I have to use FastCat? What I am doing now is pretty much the same (See my last cleanup list: http:Q_21807415.html).

The differences are:

* (My recommendation so far were not an Administrative Comment)
* The cleanup list is missing the line "FASTCAT FORMAT"
* The cleanup list is not sorted

Or would I make BooMod unhappy if I don't use it ;)
I would like to help. I have never done cleanup but would like to try a small range.

Regards Jacco
PierreC,

When I was playing with fastcat, I accidently chose the wrong date range. I saw you already posted some reccomendations (6 days ago), but you did not post a message in the cleanup TA. Take a look at https://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp#hi90

Annie,

The message is clear. Either I want to automate it on my own way, or use fastcat. Fastcat is working on my notebook, but not on my normal computer. So I need to spend some time anyway. Either to get fastcat working, or write a script to format the list properly.
Hi Annie,

I've read it and have no questions so far.

Jacco
Hi AnnieMod,

Phew, that was a lot harder than I thought it would be. I hope I did it right?

Here is the list.

Wow you are fast :)

I was just trying to get the links like how I saw them from other CleanUp volunteers. I already posted a copy of my CleanUp work in the CleanUp area.

You are right about the two questions you commented on. I will keep that in mind the next time!

Regards Jacco

Hi Annie,

I saw you added the arrows and the subject line. I have posted the new recommendations in the questions you indicated. How do I change the list posted in CleanUp?

Regards Jacco
Do not :)
The Moderators will see them in the questions

Annie
Hi Annie,

Shall I do the rest of july 2005 as well?

Regards Jacco
> Get the rest of April 2005. Thanks

Just have finished the list. You are welcome to assign a new range to me too ;)
I already prepared the rest of july 2005.
Yes everything is fine. I was just a bit busy with other things. (Real good weather here now :-)

But you're right, if I wait too long, nothing will happen.... ;)
Nope... I am just worrying when I do not hear from someone for a while :) This is the bad part in being a CV - you cannot dissapear for a long time because I start to post and send mails to check if you are ok :) I guess I forget to tell this when recruiting people :))))

Annie
As long as you don't visit me at home :) But I've read something about 31 days in my member comment, so next time I can take some more time :-)

I saw (http://www.eeqp.com/stats/oqtest.html) Delphi is the Technical Area with the highest % open questions >90 days. Does that need to be changed?
How do you think?:)) Yep - the goal is to get rid of the old questions :) Somehow surprisingly Delphi took the lead after we got rid of the big areas backlogs...

Well... I won't visit you at home 'cause you are probably in another country :)) As for the 31 days - before this happeening I would had sent you at least a few messages:)
Shall I take oktober 2005 considering the rating :-)
> Delphi is the Technical Area with the highest % open questions

I was thinking about asking a lot of new questions. That would also make the percentage go down :)

But now seriously

I have just posted the last list of recommendations of September 2005. So in 4 days they will be closed, except one question which I leave open another week (open upon request of one of the experts).

November 2005 is still assigned to kacor, So I guess December is the next?
Sure - get December 2005 :) Thanks

 > Delphi is the Technical Area with the highest % open questions
And we work on this, don't we? :) Oh - I just checked your registration date - you missed the times when we had areas with 5 000 questions open and a total of over 100 000 open questions on the site :) It was fun back then ;)

Annie
> And we work on this, don't we? :)

stats      >90%
C++      43.2
Delphi      42.3

(http://www.eeqp.com/stats/oqtest.html 05/16/2006 01:26AM PST)

now delphi is not nr. 1 any more ;)
Yeah  - Venabili is on vacation... When she is back, C++ will go down faster than Titanic.. :)

As a whole we are doing ok. :) Some areas fall behind but as an overall, we almost have no very old questions ( less than 1000 left pre-2006 all over the site)
> Yeah  - Venabili is on vacation... When she is back, C++ will go down faster than Titanic.. :)

Just noticed she is already back. But she just recommented one of my comments in c++, so it has advantages too :)
:) Yeah- noticed :))
Finished December 2005, waiting for the next range...

Although it is not really fair to compare percentages with eachother, it is nice to see Delphi going down further...

stats     >90%
C++      39.4
Lotus     36.8
Delphi    35.7

Just like to post the delphi stats for the next couple of weeks So this is the first one;

Delphi Open Questions 05/23/2006 01:31AM PST

Median (age of a middle question)= 55
Mean = 77.6

and a happy Ascension Day!
Jacco,

How are you doing?
Hi Annie,

I have 10 questions left in october. I'll finish them this week.

Regards Jacco
Thanks :)
Ok, I understand. I wanted to avoid accepting that comment as answer, and because that comment was before the recommandation, I thought it was not a problem. But I won't do it again :)
Well I see your points but... we have only one type of Admin comments... If we had CV comments, I would be ok but just now Admin comment means somewhat official post from someone that is authorized to post so. :)
Jacco,

Your 10 questions are virtually the last questions asked in 2005 still open,....
> January& February 2006 :)

Finished (at least those >21 days), so what is next :)

btw, last weeks delphi stats:

> the last questions asked in 2005 still open,....
If those questions and March 1st till March 15th 2006 are closed, >90 will become 0 next week ;)
@kacor

you seem to have forgotten to put http:Q_21648045.html on the cleanup list. It is still open.
There is one active from 2005 which wil stay open for a while. But yes - we are going down :)
Next - March & April
deleted:)
Hi Annie,

Sorry for being late... It's been a busy week. I posted the last 10 today.

Regards Jacco
Thanks :)

Annie
> Next - March & April
Finished, together with the skipped questions from my previous ranges.

I did not fully understand the cleaunup report at first. I thought it looked at the time of the last comment, but it looks only at the age of the question.

The last two weeks did not show a very big change; but 4 of the 5 lists I finished will show up on next weeks stats. Together with those of Venabili there will be more than 100 open questions less next week I think.

Still enjoying it, so you can tell me what to do next, but I will wait a week before I start (have some other things to do)

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Delphi Open Questions 06/13/2006 01:54AM PST

Open q.:      279
0-21 days:   91 (32.6%)

Delphi Open Questions 06/20/2006 02:06AM PST

Open q.:      265
0-21 days:   94 (35.5%)
22-45:         65 (24.5%)
46-90:         97 (36.6%)
>90 days:     9 (3.4%)

Median (age of a middle question)= 35
Mean = 41.5

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
>>The last two weeks did not show a very big change
Actually the more we go down to the minimum, the slower it becomes. And the real movement is seen here:

Median (age of a middle question)= 40 -> 35
Mean = 50.5 -> 41.5

And of course the fact that (>90) is almost finished :)

Let's have all lists finished to see what remains and I will give you a range :)

Annie
I saw the total for all ta's went in the wrong direction, but that is not because of Delphi:

open q.: 265->146
median 35 -> 20
mean 41.5 -> 23.9

Delphi Open Questions 06/27/2006 02:24AM PST

Open q.:      146
0-21 days:   85 (58.2%)
22-45:         47 (32.2%)
46-90:         13 (8.9%)
>90 days:     1 (0.7%)

Median (age of a middle question)= 20
Mean = 23.9

So almost done :)
I can start looking for a new job :-))
C++ Builder? :)
OWL? --> Just check it once a week IF some question had at all appeared and if so IF it is abandoned :) Wannna take it?

As for the wrong direction - stable number had always been suposed to be ~25 000. We are ~7 000 down... So all type of shaking( from 17 000 to ~22 000) is expected... :)
As you might have noticed, I did not cleanup on a particular day, and I think I cannot find a particular day for this. But if you would be happy too if the time between cleanup is somewhere between 7 and 13 days, I agree to take both. :)

btw, I think it would be better if OWL is merged into C++, but I guess that is not something you can arrange...
>> I think it would be better if OWL is merged into C++, but I guess that is not something you can arrange...
I think they will even separate it more but let's see:)

7 to 10 days for the Cleanup in C++ Builder and OWL and we have a deal ( and no problems of course if it fails to 13-15 sometimes) :)
>>  (...)  and we have a deal

:)

but ok, that's fine. when can I start?
Someone still want to help here?
>> Administrative Comment from AnnieMod  Date: 07/05/2006 07:00PM CEST ID: 17044346

>> Comment from AnnieMod Date: 09/26/2006 03:34PM CEST ID: 17600964

Hmmmm 83 days. Clearly abandoned

:) *just kidding* ;)

>> Someone still want to help here?

I think you have to open a new question to get full attention.

But you can assign me a range. But I will need some more time then I used before to finish a range. I have found an online game in which I spend too much time now :)
I try to get the old guys first  - so no new thread for a while

March - May 2006. Thanks :)
Hmmm, it took some time, but I just finished it.

I skipped http:Q_21868946.html, because email was tried to use to resolve a problem (https://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp#hi99), but I don't know if it matters after such a long time (I would recomment a delete otherwise)...

Now June?
Sure. Get June :)
Annie,

I will finish June, but will not do any new delphi range.
And I will also stop with c++builder and owl at the end of this year.

You probably already noticed that I take a lot of time. I think I can better completely stop with this.
alright, I will think about it. I will let you know when I made up my mind.
There are still a few question from june to handle for me, in my next list I will handle those and continue with july. :)

But I'm expecting problems when the new site is coming. I am not using fastcast, and I probably not going to use it. :|

my greasemonkey script was broken today on the old site, because there was a new kind of anchor added ( http:#a17909520 instead of http:#17909520 ), but that was easy to fix.
Annie,

Now I really stop. I just finished 3 lists, I handle responses the next 4 days, but not any new cleanup.
It's time for something else.

cwwkie

btw, on http:Q_22134439.html I made an error, it is not yet 21 days old, but I think it does not matter in this case.
