Can a Pix 506e be configured by a zoom modem?

Hello,
I know Cisco routers allow a modem to be hooked up to the router in case a circuit goes down.  The router cli can be accessed via the modem.  Can a Cisco Pix 506e do this?   If so, what are the settings for a zoom modem to allow it to work?

Thank you,
Bill

you can hook up the modem,
do let us know the whether your modem is a ppoe, will it give the dhcp address from the isp.??

DHCP and DSL require you to get a pppoe password and username from your ISP. Most ISPs have a homepage where you can register to get the username and password, ask customer service for the URL. You should substitute this username and password for "dsl-username" and "dsl-password" below. The VPDN group statements just assign a username, password, authentication type to a profile, in this case "ISP". The configuration steps are relatively straight forward. (Remember to be in config mode)

ip address outside pppoe setroute
ip address inside 192.168.X.X 255.255.255.0 <whatever ip u require>
vpdn group ISP request dialout pppoe
vpdn group ISP localname dsl-username
vpdn group ISP ppp authentication pap
vpdn username dsl-username password dsl-password

Sorry lol. As we do not use modems in the UK really I assumed you meant a dialup modem.

Keith I read his question the same as you, I'm looking up the Cisco AUX port commands.  Can you find them and the config that needs to be fed into NVRAM of a Zoom modem to do this, LOL/

Yes I am talking about a dial up modem.  If the connectivity to that site (t1) is down, I need to dial into the firewall to be sure that it is not the problem.

Thank you,
Bill

Then the settings are as above. Do you have the manual for the zoom?

does the PIX have a AUX port?

:)  I think the 506 is the same as the 501; just uses the console port. Likely will need the normal console cable but with the db9/db25 attachment serial connector.

Is it OK to leave this question open for a while?  I do not know when we can hook up the modem and test.

Thank you.

Sure; as long as you add an update before 3 weeks.
