Microsoft Money will not auto update.

I have a MS Money problem which I cannot figure out.

My PC died so was rebuilt from scratch. When trying to open a file with MS Money I get the error
Money cannot locate [money file] or cannot open it, possibly because it is a read-only file or your do not have permission to change it or your disk drive is write protected.

If you have chosen the correct file and it cannot be accessed, you will need to click OK and open your most recent backup file.

If the file is being used by another application, close it in the other application and click OK to try again.

I have done extensive googling on this and all roads seem to lead to the fact that I need MS Money to autoupdate from out of the box version to I've done everything I can find, including starting a new file, using a blank user account, opening the sample file etc... Every topic on this I've managed to find says if I can open Money then it will auto download the update automatically and I should see something on the Money home page that is saying something about updating.

I see nothing at all like this. There is no problem with Money accessing the web, I can do online stock watch stuff through the program. We don't have a firewall that is blocking the pc with it on. I can't for the life of me work out how to manually update it or find a patch for it.

I really need to access this file urgently, so 500 points up for grabs.

Please help.
Watch Question

P.S I am running Windows XP as an OS so figured this was as good a place as any to put it.
And in case you're wondering the file is not readonly or in use by another program.

You could try creating a new user account and give it administrator rights.  Logon as this user and try to update the program again.

Oh sorry I miss read your question.  Did you check all the menu bars for an update button?  Check help or options.

5. If you are not prompted to download the Money updates, click Tools, point to Internet Updates, and then click Update Now.

That is taken from this knowledge base article which you may want to read.  http://www.kbalertz.com/kb_896925.aspx

I have tried that, the only option to upgrade I get is

"Update quotes, news, and exchange rates".

It updates those just fine, but does not update my Money program.

So this is a fresh install of XP and Money?

I've just fixed it by turning off AVG Anti Virus.

I meant to accespt the KB one, not the last one. Same person though.
Cheers for your help.

Cool, glad you got it working.
