Can SAP be automated to output to excel in the background every 15 minutes

I run IW37n transcation (part of the PM module) numerous times through out the day and export to excel. It is a slow process. I want to know whether i can run this action in the background using code or some addin software, say business warehouse.

regards

It can certainly be automated as a batch job running ABAP code, but I guess that's not what you have in mind?

As a user, you have limited options:
1.  Use some Windows automation tool such as AutoIt http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/

2.  Configure the report to present the data in Excel (certain SAP transactions which output data as an ALV grid are also capable of activating "Excel in-place")

3.  Automate through an Excel macro which invokes the SAPGUI (SAPGUI scripting must be enabled on the production machine)

4.  Set up transmission to BW where a report can be set up as a batch job.

By far the last option is the most practical, as long as your systems guys set up the data connectors to update the BW system periodically.

Maybe you can create a java application that take the data and store in a database or txt file and read this from excel.
You can use a driver SapConnector to connect to SAP from JAVA.
