Adobe reader hangs in outlook

When opening an PDF file in outlook 2003 that was an attachemnt to an e-mail, it appears that adobe reader hangs and after several minutes I have to kill the adobe application in task manager. If I save the file to the local pc and then open it in adobe reader it works fine. I have tried with both 6.0 and 7.0 versions of adobe reader installed. I have this happening on only a single laptop the other ones seem to work fine. Does anyone have any ideas on this issue.

Have you tried deleting the Acrobat temporary files on the machine in question ?? When using Acrobat, it tends to store a large amount of temporary files in the profile, and these can sometimes become corrupt and affect the way Acrobat works (or not, as the case may be).

Try from a command prompt running from the root of C:  :

del acr*.tmp /s

Another thing to check, is what versions of Acrobat you have installed. Acrobat, as a rule, doesn't play well with itself, and having more than one version installed at a time causes all kinds of weird and wonderful (and equally varied) problems. be sure to uninstall any and all versions before re-installing 7 and subsequent patches.

Does this problem occur for just the one user - or does it occur for anyone using that PC ? Are you on a domain using roaming profiles by any chance ? Could perhaps try renaming their local and roaming profile and see if that resolves it.

Thanks for your input grin king, I will pass this along to the user having the problem. He is on the road this week so I don't know if I wil get a responce from him until later this week. We are on a domain and each user has their own laptop so there is no sharing. I will have him delete the temp files while he is out of the office, but I will look into his profile after he is back as I do not want him to make any changes to his profile while he is on the road (could be disaster waiting to happen).
Heh - wise thinking there gerry ;)
Hope the above helps him out...
