Exchange Email is very slow

A client of ours is having problems with Exchange email.  We are running Windows Small Business Server, and have configured Exchange Server.  The email goes out, but takes forever to be delivered.  Sometimes does not even get delivered.  We have checked into all the obvious issues concerning Exchange.  The MTA Service, which is not running, nor does it need to be, ISP DNS, and Disk Space.  All look fine.  Is there anything else that we should be checking.  Thanks in advance for the support.

How are you delivering your outgoing mail? By Smarthost or by DNS?

DNS
How is your dns operating? All tcpip advanced settings have dns pointing to itself?
DNS service set to use forwarders (pointing at ISP DNS)?

Anything listed in the windows event log?
Have a look in the ESM under the server, protocols, smtp. Anything showing as retry in the message queues?
You can also use the Message Tracker Tool in System Manager to determine at what point the delay is, I believe.
Thanks for the support.  Problem resolved.  After previously changing the DNS on the Server(do to ISP issues), it created additional Exchange accounts for Agents which needed to be removed.  Also found very large email attachments that some poeple tried to send.  Thanks again.
