Can not get wdm driver handle !

My wife has started getting this pop-up error on her Gateway Solo2150 laptop running Windows XP Pro:

Can not get wdm driver handle!

The pop-up error dialog has a "OK" button.  When you click it, the error message comes right back again (over and over.)

Any suggestions please?  As fas as I know- nothing has been installed or uninstalled from the computer recently.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

snyperj,
Suggest you try Ewido.  You can download and install the free version of Ewido anti-malware from here.   Update it first, then scan in Safe mode:

Quote:  This setup contains the free as well as the plus-version of the ewido security suite. After the installation, a free 14-day test version containing all the extensions of the plus-version will be activated. At the end of the test phase, the extensions of the plus version are deactivated and the freeware version can be used unlimited times.

For comment one above, rapidly tap F8 key during bootup to enter Safe mode.

It's also conceivable you may have a virus and may also like to try at least two of these free virus scanners.   No one scanner is guaranteed to remove all viruses:

She wound up using AdAware which was previouslyinstalled.  The problem has stopped.

Ok snyperj thanks for reporting back.   Well it's good that it's cleared and the problem does appear to be due to Malware !
You may therefore believe that one or more of the ideas above contributed to the problem being cleared.    Alternatively you may feel that your wife cleared the problem herself.  Whatever the case the decision is yours, and we could wrap up this thread with help from the comments in this next link.   See the heading "How do I accept a comment?", then read on.  Thank you.
