Backup Exec jon cancels itself

We have a client running Backup Exec 10.0 with a DDS4 tape drive.  The jobs almost always worked fine, yet they have failed for the last 3 days in a row.  Each night the job runs a little over 2 gb of the job (26 gb total), and then stops and fails.  The log comes back saying: The job was canceled by user Recovery.  Then if I go into the event viewer there is an error that the drive hardware is offline from the night before.  I can see the tape drive, inventory the tape that is in it, and it shows up.  I have stopped and restarted all the backup exec services to no avail, and tested inventorying the tape before the nightly job started.  Any ideas?  To my knowledge nothing new has been added to the server it is on, and the jobs worked fine for a long time before this started.

Not sure, where is that at?  I have started a manual job on the server this morning and it is running fine so far, well past where it normally stops.

VSS is a Service in Windows Server !

It appears under " services.msc " console !

Check if it's set to automatically start !

Manually is it already passed the 2 Gb barrier ? If so, check the Backup Selection !

Maybe there was an user with some open file or accessing some file on the server !

Looks like it is going to work now, the test will be does it work tonight as scheduled like it is supposed to.  Other than stopping and restarting the services I have not done anything to it at this point.

What you can do is create an script that stop the service prior to the backup.

SERVICE STOP  servicename

and if you need to restart

SERVICE START servicename

put this on a .bat file. it should works.

You should clean your drive and try a new tape..
if you still have the same issue. reboot your server. this way we could eliminate any possible factors

They worked fine for most of last week, and then it did it again Friday night.  The first time you open backup exec after it cancels the job (we get an email telling us this), an error pops up saying the backup exec engine failed.  The error message (that you can send to MS), has: bengine.exe

Not sure what those mean, but basically the backup exec job engine is stopping mid job, but then it is started again in the morning and ready to go. We have tried new tapes, good tapes, and this only happens randomly and no changes have been made the backup job.  I have started a manual job (right click and do run now on the scheduled job) and it is working so far.

It has been working fine, usually restarting all the services helps it run fine the next night when it does this which appears to be random.  The auto cancel was turned off.

That looks like the a printing application is getting hung up...the file is part of a microsoft c library that is use for printing and other commands.....

I doubt anything is printing in the middle of the night, which service is it and can it be turned off?

sorry maybe i should have done a bit of more reaserch....the file that you are seeing is  .dll file use by .net apps visual studio and c++ the command has different functions apologies for the confusion... the .dll file is used by veritas software as you can see here
