How can I fully restore a system using Windows Backup/Restore?

I recently used the Windows Backup/Restore utility to create a backup image of my system. As fate would have it the next day While timkering around with Partition Magic I did something and caused my system to not boot. I reinstalled Windows on my "C" partition. I tried to restore the system to its original state using the Win Restore. the Image completes the restore I see the data on the C drive but when I reboot, it still has the newly installes OS properties. not my desktop andsettings as the were before the mishap. what I am Not doing?

Did you backup with the backup utility under the control panel-performance & maintenance?  If so did you also specify in your backup to backup the "System State Data".  If the System State Data was not backed up along with your data then your registry entries would not have been updated by the restore.  Thus explaining why the system settings are still in the "Freshly Installed State"
