Then field YTYST (char 1) is copied to field YTRTWC (packed 9 0), so that will create the error.

If you want to drop the extra fields from the input file, and have default values for extra fields in the output file,
you could just copy the file, mapping and dropping those fields:

Otherwise, you are back to the SQL or RPG option.

Wow, guys - I think this is lot simpler than all of that. The F0618 and F06116 are JD Edwards Payroll transaction files.

I'm sorry I didn't see this post earlier because I think this is really simple. The F0618 is the Transactional History file. The F06116 is the work file for entering employee time transactions.

To get the recrods to history, you just have to post your payroll to history. You do this in JDE by doing a Final Payroll Update.

You should never manually post records to the history file. They're moved via a JDE DREAM Writer. The F06116 is the current data and the F0618 is the all the data that has been finally posted.

The employee time card review programs look at the F06116 for the current info and the F0618 for the posted time entries.

If you have more questions about this you should contact the JDE/PeopleSoft/Oracle help desk. They can walk you through the particulars for you environment.

Let me know if you need more help with this. But this is a process you need to run, not a technical thing that needs to be done.

I should add that there's an integrity report P06705 that does the final update and runs an integrity report.

I can look up other details for you if you need/want. Just let me know. I have worked with JDE Payroll in the past, but it's been a while - I'll have to look at my manuals.

Hi Bryant,

You definitely are the right person to talk to. Yes F0618, F06116 are JDE payroll tables. We had issues with payroll, a few transaction didn't get posted to history. So we spoke to JDE and the solution they provide is manully move data from f06116 to f0618. We use AS/400 as enterprise server and I'm just trying to figure out how to get it done as I happen to be that lucky IT person to take care of the data transfer.

Sorry to butt in...

I have compared the file layouts and the fields of F0618 are basically a subset of F06116 fields PLUS one extra field, this is

So you have two options you could use (which avoid writing ad-hoc programs)

(1) Copy file F06116 to F0618 using CPYF with the options (*MAP *DROP), this will copy the relevant fields and leave YTAID unpopulated - which you would need to do manually via DFU or SQL.

(2) Alternative - my preferred solution - is use Query to select the records you want to copy and create a new user defined field YTAID as 8 characters [ set to the desired value assuming you know what to set it to ]
Select ALL fields including the new field YTAID, define the result as an output file....
run the query.
copy the query output file to to F0618 using CPYF with the options (*MAP *DROP), this will copy the relevant fields including YTAID.
>>> if you need YTAID to have different values, repeat the process for each YTAID value needed.

Advantage to this method is you can double check the records in the query output file BEFORE copying them into the history file. - check you have selected the right number of records.

jingyizou - I have just seen Bryants recent post (SQL statements)... and have read the comment from JDE about MOVING the records, not copying the records,

so you would have to delete the records from F06116 after doing my copy process.

Bryant - the SQL looks ok except for the additional field YTAID which you need to cater for.

If it was my choice, I would still SQL to an empty version of F0618 and then double check BEFORE copying into proper F0618 and deleting F06116 records.

Yeah, it's not at all clear why a complex SQL statement is needed when a far simpler CPYF seems to accomplish the same thing.

The OP didn't clarify how the error happened. It seemed as if a CPYF might have failed with an error indicating that a value mismatch was present. That is, there already has been an attempt to copy the data but there was limited success.

I ran the sql on as/400, it works great and I see the data get copied to f0618. But in payroll --paystub history, I didn't see the records. I'll let our payroll person talk to JDE or it could be me miss something. I don't know much about payroll. As far as the moving data part, I think we're all set here.

Glad to hear it Jingyi!

Regarding the rest of it: I know that when you post to history, it also posts to the F6146 - PDBA Summary History File, and the F0619 DBA Detail History File for all of the deductions. Also there's a Tax Ledger F06166 file that tracks the taxes. Finally, there's a file F063451 and F06345 that has the Historical Payroll Registers and Processing respectively. I don't remember for sure, but I think running the Verify Integrity of Payroll Summary History (P067011) will correct the discrepencies where they don't show up in the other files.

I believe you get to this from menu G0731 - Payroll History Audit Report. Option 11 depending on the JDE version. This will show you the discrepencies between the payroll files, but I don't think it fixed anything. Then I belive you have to run the options under History File Repost (options 14 - 20) to fix the various problems. My guess it that you'll have to run most of them. The JDE Analyst will know for sure.

To everyone else - you're right a cpyf with *drop *map with and *add option would have also worked - I'm just so used to doing things in SQL that it's quick and easy and you can see exactly what it's doing. Plus you can test it first by doing selects before you update or insert. Also, I wasn't sure if there would be selction criteria, so I figured SQL was easiest to tweak. Plus, most non-AS/400 folks understand SQL. It took me literally about 90 seconds to write the SQL - about the same as it would have to do the cpyf - 6 of 1 or half-a-dozen of the other - same difference.

Also, I left out the YTAID field in the SQL so it didn't copy - the AID - Account field doesn't exist in the history file.

The "non-AS/400 folks" part makes good sense. Personally though, I'm still curious about what caused the error. It still feels as if _something_ is wrong that hasn't been discovered.

The first way I'd expect the error would be when using the file after an image-copy had been done with bad data. The second would be from attempting to copy with mapping or INSERTing actual invalid data.

I'm not clear on where/how the error was reported, so I'm not clear on whether anything has actually been fixed. (Nor if there even was a problem.)

My point was that the field YTAID didn't exist in the input file, F06116 but did exist in the output file, F0618...
so did the SQL default the value to null which is allowed for YTAID ?? Maybe that is why he can't see the records... and he needs to assign a value to YTAID.

I'm not too concerned about the YTAID field, but you might be right Tony - that may be why it doesn't show up, but I'm thinking there are many reasons why they don't show up. Basically, for some reason the update failed for those few employees left in the 6116 file. The update program looks at the employee file and some AAIs (Automatic Accounting Instructions) to determine the account to post to and populates the AID field. Also the final update program posts entries, based on the employee's setup to the various deductions and corresponding deduction files (DBA files). The integrity fixes will resolve all of these issues.

Jingyi said they were instructed by the JDE Help Desk analyst to move the data to the 618. Knowing how JDE works on most things, the rest can probably be fixed by running a few DREAM Writer programs to get the other postings corrected automatically. JDE has a lot of fail-safe fixes built in for situations like this. The account numbers are likely based on the type of hours (reg, ot, dbl time, etc.) plus a different account for various deductions and taxes, etc. All of that is set up in JDE and there are programs to run to repopulate those fileds (AID field, and data in other files).

I think the JDE analyst can help them get things back to normal from here.

Regarding the Null thing, Tony, I went back and looked at the original post, and I see what you mean - they must be using One World with only the data on the iSeries. Jingyi's reference to "Enterprise Server" references that too. I'm assuming that the JDE fixes will correct that, but it's possible that you need to have a value in the field. But if it's not running an RPG program and is running in Windows, then nulls are no big deal. I'm guessing the programs are running in windows and not in RPG on the 400 where nulls would cause an issue. In Native 400 version of JDE (World), nulls aren't allowed, so I know this is a different version of JDE.

I went back look the table F0618, YTAID field are all blank. I'm guessing YTAID may not be why it doesn't show up. I'll post the solution when I hear back from JDE analyst. It most likely will be an JDE issue rather than AS/400.
